Ventura Highways

When's the last time you saw one of these Ponchos? I can't say I ever did. A 1968 Pontiac Ventura with the 428 big block and factory four speed? I'm loving the hardtop styling and aggressive stance. To say that Pontiac was at the top of their game in the late sixties would be an understatement. This vehicle is a low mileage original with just 32,850 on the clock. For the price of a new Camry, you could be hauling the family in this bad boy and never see another one on the road. Sign me up.

The "Bunke beak" and the metallic olive green paint are both hallmarks of that time. (I had a Schwinn 10-speed that exact color, which they called "Campus Green".)

This car is exactly the kind of car I hated, as a "foreign" car guy who considered Colin Chapman to be the best car designer in the world.

It looks pretty cool now.

Funny how time has a way of doing that!

Good work man, love it. Keep it up with the good job. I will put a link on my blog for this good looking ventura.

Best Regards,

Thanks for the link Daniel. Looking through your site, I like Dodge's interpretation of the Charger for the Brazilian market. Cool.

It was a sport version of Dodge Dart tagged as Charger. It had the V8 318 ci 5.2 with 215 hp. This is until nowadays the largest and most powefull engine ever build for a passenger car here.

Funny thing is that in 1979 Chrysler was almost done here so they sold everything to Volkswagen.

The german automaker started to build their first Trucks using the Chrysler V8 and the last Darts was sold with a plate written "Built by Volkswagen of Brazil" in portuguese.

They did this until september of 1981, when the last Dart of the world was sold.

What a great Pontiac...I loved those cars, and remember wanting one when I was younger. It proves that Pontiac could have been a contender...they will be missed. Another great post!
